Jorge Zalszupin

1922 /2020

Poland / Brazil

Born in Poland in 1922, Zalszupin moved to Brazil after graduating in architecture in 1945. In order to con-vince his new clients about his bold ideas, Zalszupin decided to build his own house and, subsequently, de-signed the furniture for the house so that it would speak the same stylistic language of the architecture. His graceful designs feature ingenious geometry akin to origami and are both rational and sensual, with a certain timeless feel.

After a successful foray producing and marketing his own line in the 1960s and 1970s, his work receded into the background until ETEL rescued his designs and started a collection reissuing some of his pieces in collaboration and with the supervision of Zalszupin and his family.

Also the visual communication of L'Atelier was something very remarkable. Between the '60s and '70s, Jorge used and abused shapes and colors in the best possible way to make his catalogs fun and attractive. Bright colors, especially orange, are the colors of progress for him.
