Claudia Moreira Salles was the first designer invited to develop pieces for ETEL, at a particularly significant moment: the 1990s, a period that marked the rearticulation and strengthening of Brazilian design. Her connection with ETEL emerged organically, in line with a practice grounded in the principles of Brazilian modernism and in a consistent investigation of wood and craftsmanship.

The formal precision that structures her work, combined with a keen sensitivity to material, immediately resonated with Etel Carmona. From this convergence came a shared project: to affirm the possibility of production at scale with an artisanal vocation—terms that may seem antagonistic, but within ETEL became complementary. The path inaugurated by this collaboration was decisive in establishing the brand as a leading platform for modern and contemporary Brazilian design.

In the ABERTO editions, the pieces conceived by Claudia respond precisely to the specific demands of each exhibition context. For the presentation of artist books and publications in general, Claudia also developed a support table with adjustable height and tilt, capable of adapting to different reading situations, including alongside armchairs. Considering the scale and weight often found in art books, the piece not only enhances the viewing experience but also establishes an ergonomic mediation between the work and the reader. The ABERTO Side Table adopts the same construction principle as the ABERTO Easel, reinforcing the intention to create a line of pieces dedicated to the display and enjoyment of artworks.
