Widely recognized as the father of modern Brazilian furniture, the Portuguese-born Joaquim Tenreiro was a key pioneer in redefining design in Brazil. Trained in the craft of woodworking from an early age in his father’s workshop, he developed exceptional technical skills and seamlessly combined artisanal precision with the feasibility of small-scale serial production. This resulted in a rare balance of sophistication and functionality. Wood, his primary medium, was treated with reverence throughout his practice.
