1948 /2011
Oswaldo Bratke’s advanced architectonic studies inspired him to conceive this emblematic chair, designed in 1948. Its basic appearance hides a complex structure, consisting of four shapes of plywood that are held together by a single screw. With artisanal construction and painstaking finish, the 1948 Chair was produced in a limited edition of 104 numbered pieces – for the number of years Bratke would have been on the day the piece was launched by ETEL, in 2011. Although it was never produced in a commercial scale, the chair became well known and was featured in several exhibitions, both in Brazil and abroad. It is still today part of the collection of the Centre Pompidou in France, and of the Museu da Casa Brasileira (Museum of the Brazilian Home).
