Dinamarquesa Armchair

Jorge Zalszupin

Dinamarquesa Armchair

1959 /2006

The combination between organic shapes and simple, clean lines in the Dinamarquesa armchair makes reference to modern Scandinavian design, especially to the work of Hans Wegner (1914- 2007) and Finn Juhl (1912-1989). Jorge Zalszupin admits to this affinity when answering about the Scandinavian influence in his work: “It´s there even today. I even called my first chair Danish”30. When answering about his furniture, in another interview, the designer gave more details about this product: “That was the first one I didn´t make to order. Here is where my other life began. Made in 1959, it is an armchair made in Brazilian rosewood and cushions, with stick legs. The design of the arms and front legs is reminiscent of the columns made by Niemeyer for the Alvorada Palace”
