The Rio Rocking Chair, with its unexpected curves, was born from the architect’s dissatisfaction: Niemeyer believed the furniture of the 1970s did not match the architectonic production that was being created at the time.
"We wanted to find a new furniture design that would allow, with the use of pressed wood, to imagine things different from traditional furniture. And as this idea was close to architectural technique, we tried to reduce supports, integrating them in the curved shapes adopted. And we designed armchairs , tables, marquees, rocking chairs, etc. One day, work permitting, we will return in a more organized way to this task that attracts and amuses us." Oscar Niemeyer, 1992

In 2013, ETEL becomes the official reeditor of all iconic furniture by Oscar Niemeyer, who dedicated himself to the creation of furniture only in the 1970s, during his exile in Paris, in partnership with his daughter Anna Maria. Sculptural like its architecture, the set features plywood molded into daring curves, and all carry, in addition to the ETEL DNA, also the seal and identification of the Oscar Niemeyer Foundation.
