Oscar Niemeyer

1907 /2012

Brazil

Every line drawn by architect Oscar Niemeyer had the power to charm the eye and make history. But his curves were not just limited to his remarkable architectonic work.

The architect responsible for some of the most inventive and revolutionary Modern buildings also created sculpturesque pieces of furniture, re-flecting the beautifully drawn curves in his architecture. Through their close partnership with the Oscar Niemeyer Foundation, ETEL is the exclusive manufacturer of these pieces.
“I am not attracted to the right angle, nor to the straight, hard, inflexible line created by men. I am at-tracted to the free and sensual curve, the one I find on my country’s mountains, its winding rivers, the waves in the sea, and on the body of the favorite woman. The entire universe is made of curves, the bend-ing universe of Einstein” – Oscar Niemeyer.

When a form creates beauty, it has in beauty its own justification.

OSCAR NIEMEYER

Oscar Niemeyer, representative of Rio de Janeiro architecture school, is considered to be the architect who had the most plastic influence on Brazilian architecture. He is credited with introducing the curve into universal modern architecture. “Modern world architecture was cubic, straight and very prismatic".
