Alvarenga e Susana Bastos

Born in the countryside of the state of Minas Gerais, siblings Marcelo Alvarenga and Susana Bastos have been in touch with design since childhood, when their grandfather, João Alvarenga, would create many of the objects they used in their daily lives. In 2012, the duo combined their creative powers to start Alva Design.

With a degree in Plastic Arts from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Susana meanders between fashion, art and design. For eight years, she was in charge of the collections of the renowned Coven clothing brand. Her work has been shown at the Celma Albuquerque gallery in Belo Horizonte, and at the Emma Thomas gallery in São Paulo.

Marcelo has an Architecture and Urbanism degree, also from UFMG. He was a protégé of Freusa Zechmeister and Isay Weinfeld, and opened his own office in 2008. Since then, Play Arquitetura has been elected as a prominent architecture company by international magazines such as Wallpaper and Monolito.
