Domingos Totora

Brazil

Recycled cardboard serves as the foundation for Domingos Tótora's work. In a sustainable process, the cardboard is cut and treated with glue and agglutination derivatives, transforming it into a moldable cellulose mass. This material serves as the base for furniture, objects, and sculptural pieces. All the works are shaped by hand and then naturally dried in the sun. The beauty of Domingos' work is not only evident in the final product but also in its process; from the designer's philosophy and the embedded environmental respect in his production techniques to the location of his studio in Maria da Fé in the mountainous region of Minas Gerais.

Domingos has already won the Design Award from the Museum of the Brazilian House in 2010, has exhibited internationally in the USA and throughout Europe. His work was featured at the Design Museum in London as part of the Designs of the Year exhibition (2012).

"I love the smell, the touch of wood. I am fascinated by the relationship between humans and this raw material. Our intervention transforms this material into something entirely different."
