Roberto Micoli
1953
Brazil
Mícoli was born in Campinas, in the state of São Paulo, and started his learning journey as a child. He has been working in the arts since 1975, when he had his first solo exhibition.
After all these years painting on canvas and creating objects of art, the artist’s main theme is aimed at somehow salvaging our ancestral handicraft – by painting, cutting, sewing. With a career that included participations in solo and group exhibitions, Mícoli’s work is seen in major museums – such as Masp and MAC USP – as well as in important private collections in Brazil and abroad – such as the Nemirovsky’s.
In his partnership with ETEL he developed pieces of DesignArt furniture. The pieces make reference to the “applied arts” concepts of Brazilian modernism, as expressed in the work of John Graz and Flávio de Carvalho.
